War of the Burning Sky 4e
Secret meeting or not, someone was followed, and they are now attempting to take you and your companions – alive!
A voice outside shouts “Take it down boys!” And a group of thugs bash through the door with a battering ram. A few steps behind a trio of scouts come down the stairs in an attempt to catch you between them and take you into custody.
Azarial with his fire magic, Alara singing and battling, K’tok’s battle skills and Grim working his axe like the pro he is, all work hard to keep that from happening. Just as the battle sets into full force, the Ragesians begin firebombing the city. The first 4 districts from the West (you were in the third) were hit hard by firebombs dropped from wyvern riders and hurled by catapult. Just as your battle draws to a close, the Griffin Riders of Gate pass rise to do battle on behalf of the city.
Between Azarial’s fire magic and the Ragesian bombs, the Pub is reduced to a pile of ash. However, since the owner is in prison awaiting the inquisitors, it probably isn’t a great concern to anyone – yet.
Taking to the streets, you face down Kathor and his trio of mutts. Between Alara and Nark, you daze and confuse him, long enough to take him down. His horse runs away, however, it’s likely it doesn’t hold any secrets, so no great loss. Kathor’s Raven also escapes, flying toward the east.
Removing his weapons, you proceed to question him, discovering:
*They belong to the Blackhorse, a group of former bandits who have acheived a bit of legitimacy through working in the city as a mercenary defense force.
*The leader’s name is Renard Woodsman, a notorious ranger/thief who has made a small fortune robbing caravans, and is now serving a member of the city council rounding up mages both in the city (where he has several bands working) and to the east keeping them from fleeing.
*Kathor’s father, is leading the Ragesian army heading this way.
*Kathor has no desire to see his father, as his father will turn him over to the inquisitors immediately.
*Kathor has only recently joined with the Black Horse as they were the only group who recognized his skills and were able to put them to use.
*Kathor regrets joining the Black Horse.
*The Black Horse’s reputation in the town has been greatly enhanced due to the diplomatic and honourable manner in which Kathor has handled each crisis they encountered.
*Kathor’s band have been responsible for the capture of only 4 spell casters, all of whom have had a bad/evil reputation, and inexplicably, two others have escaped custody on their way to the holding area.
By this time people are milling around in the streets, unsure what to do about the burning buildings/homes and where to go. Most begin to flee toward churches and the Hospitlar chapter houses.
